This unit converts four simultaneous fax or data calls over the telephone network into data packets over an IP network. Calls can be incoming or outgoing. The unit supports PPP protocol and checks the authorization (user/password) of all incoming data calls. Incoming faxes are stored on a fax server for subsequent distribution over the satellite, PSTN or Internet. Multiple destination faxes are supported by the associated fax server.

The data/fax modem unit is typically housed in a universal chassis, together with other MSS-designed modules such as satellite channel units, frequency generation unit, etc.
