Digital Signal Processing Unit

This unit provides significant general-purpose computation power in the form of

• 4 33 MIPS DSPs
• 128 MB DRAM
• 60,000 programmable digital gates.
• Intel embedded controller/scheduler.

This high computation power is complemented by a high I/O throughput in the form of

• one 100-baseT LAN / IP interface
• 4 E1 trunks (120 telephone channels)
• 100 Mbps high-speed backplane

Typical applications include acquisition and demodulation of very low-level data packets transmitted over a satellite.

The digital signal processing unit is typically housed in a rack-mounted chassis, together with other MSS-designed modules such as satellite channel units, frequency generation unit, data / fax modem, etc.
